about the Bauhaus stage ...
The Bauhaus, founded in Weimar 1919 by Walter Gropius, was Germany's most famous and most avant-garde art and design school, constructed in 1925-26 when the political situation in Weimar forced the school to move to Dessau, where it is today a place of design, research and teaching again. Focussing urban planning, architecture, visual and performing art, design, social sciences and humanities, the Bauhaus Dessau invites practitioners from design disciplines and also theorists in relevant fields to join in a new form of transdisciplinary and intercultural learning the Bauhaus Kolleg.Based on designs by Walter Gropius, it was this building's architecture as well as the Bauhaus' significance for architecture and design in the 20th century, that motivated the UNESCO to add the Bauhaus Building and the Master Houses to their World Heritage List.
Today's Bauhaus Dessau Foundation is a public institution, focussing on preservation and conveyance of the historic heritage of the Bauhaus, accessibility to the public, and, in view of the historic Bauhaus' ideas and approaches, to contribution to solve the problems of design for living in today's environment.More than just a school or a museum, the institution is a place for design, teaching and research, focusing on issues related to the city and to urbanity in the broadest sense of the world. Exhibitions and conferences add to the inspiring atmosphere at today's Bauhaus as well as performances on the Bauhaus stage and a variety of other events.

Bauhaus-stageThe interactive dance + theatre performance En 3+4 jeu x 3 is the result of the collaboration in between the French dance-company Res Publica and the Belgian Laboratorium for Architecture and Urbanism _ LAB[au].
As a homage to Nicolas Schöffer’s first cybernetic interactive performance KYLDEX 1 in 1973 in the Hamburg Opera, here the public interactions also influence the spatial and temporal structures of the stage.
A time, given at the beginning of the show, initializes a countdown. What will happen in the given time-span, will be the result of the audience's intervention on the scenic setting of the performance via a multimedia interface, projected on the back of the scene and from which the options chosen by the audience will take shape.
Like a combinatory game, this space of projection and interaction, of 3+4X3 sequences, examines the relations between scene/space - where, actor/audience - who, and play/representation - what. In this manner the scene, the actors’ performance, the music and the interface constitute successively a language defining the performance as a trace to be negotiated with the public. Inspired by the work of Oskar Schlemmer the reduction to an elementary scenic language based on its very codes explores representation yet according to the introduction of real time interactivity, an inter-relation between the public and the actors. In this manner each representation constitutes a specific event questioning the modalities of a medium through a hypertextual device.Concept: Res Publica, LAB[au]
