MetaDeSign as new media specific discipline

About lab[au]:

lab[au], laboratory for architecture and urbanism, pursuits since its foundation in 1995 the objective to link theoretical research the lab with the specific conditions in the elaboration and production of inFORMational projects la.BAU . As a collaborative agency including partners from different disciplines, lab|au| sets up a network, a critical space of reflection and experimentation on the specific modalities of IC technologies in the setting of codes/languages as well as their potential in the founding of a discipline, MetaDeSign.

Lab[au] will be presented by Jèrôme Decock, artist and programmer.

About the conference:

Metadesign as a discipline is about the transposition of inFORMation processes, transmission and computation, in textual, graphical, three-dimensional forms, in order to build up connectivity and efficiency. In this manner MetaDeSign displays the theme of new space constructs relative to information processes according to social, semantic and spatial structures. In summary, MetaDesign is about the setting of codes / language drawn from concepts of communication and information sciences - cognitive science with that of process methods, design and spatial constructs, architecture. 'Metadesign' thus can be understood as a technology determinism that constitutes the main vector/thought in the concern of networked, information-based societies.

Through the presentation of different methods and projects the conference focus on the impact on IC-technologies in:

1. the setting of new forms of data structures in relation to spatial ones - 'hypertextu[r]al environments' thus examines the hypertext in the setting of codes / signs - cognitive structures illustrated through the exhibition scenography ' Game Village _ http://www.lab-au.com/game '

2. the setting of spatial constructs in relation to interactivity - 'hyperspace' as the extension of perceptive and cognitive modalities in the experience of space illustrated through the scenography of the ' i.skin, electronic bodyness
_ http://www.lab-au.com/i-skin ' installation.

3. the setting of new semantics 'hypermedia ' focusing on new aesthetics and sign-forms based on programming logics/codes illustrated through the 'sPACE, navigable music ' project and the scenography of the ' spa[z]e 360°' performance/installation _ http://www.lab-au.com/space
