This is the first New York performance for Brussels -based artists:
LAB[au] - laboratory for architecture and urbanism
Manuel Abendroth, Carl De Smet, Jérôme Decock, Pieter Heremans and Alexandre Plennevaux
Founded in 1995, lab[au] explores ways in which our conceptions, and
perceptions of space are being transformed by new technological processes. Combining code and language drawn from communication and information sciences, much of lab[au]'s work explores the impact of 3D Real Time modeling languages (such as VRML) on the construction of physical and electronic space.
In this new project, polygon den[c]ities, lab[au] creates a shifting schematic of New York with graphics, wall projections, sounds, and spatial structures generated in real time. Operating on spatial (x,y,z), temporal (t-movements) and sonic (frequency, pitch) parameters, this dramatic visual and sonic 360° space responds to the position and movement of audiences through image sequencing, sound mixes, camera movements, and cinematic techniques.
During the performance, "spheres" 3Dsound objects-managed by lab[au]'s
electronic musician Erzatz-trigger samples created during a three day
workshop by lab[au] in collaboration with invited New York based musicians and sound artists.

polygon den[c]ity:polygon - basic unit of any 3d modeling program / electronic space
density: as well a concept of architecture than of music
danse: music
city: architectureThe workshop deals on the specificities in the conception and production of
electronic space as a new field of investigation in spatial constructs
combining codes / language drawn from communication and information
sciences - cognitive science with the one of music and architecture - it is
thus the investigation in the concept of hypermedia linking different
artictic fields in one single construct. At the same time the title
plays on two different levels of understanding: a first direct
one - to work on the interrelation between 'music' and 'the city' - (danse
city) and a second more abstract one: 'density'* qualifying contemporary
architectural and sonic concepts. In this play between the two level of signification the title also express
the general idee of the project where : the starting point, a schematic 3D model of
a city is proposed to musicians, architects and visual artists in order to enlarge
transform the mimic representation into a specific one within the electronic
media while combining it to graphics, visuals, video and sound structures.
Density as a generic concepts linking space and sound constitutes a
conceptual frame of the workshop in the aim to transform mimic spatial and
sonic representation (the city) to specific one of e.space based on
fondamental principales which also bridges the gap between the idea of real
and virtual.
The [SPAZE], music is based on collaboration between lab[au] and different electronic musicians, influenced by electro / d n' b / IDM and brain music, who composes specific sonic-spaces, navigable music. Based on the space, navigable music project the collaborations focus on the exploration of musical patterns in and through e.space and relates them to image sequencing in order to create an immersive sonic and visual environment. The composing of music through navigation in e.space and the spatialization of music through the quadraphonic sound system thus constitutes a performative sonic space, which the musicians creates each time live through their navigation. It thus relates, synchronies, space to music and cinematic techniques dealing not only with new ways how to compose, share, perform and diffuse music through electronic space but also questions the construct of music and space itself _ 'space_music'.
The exploration of 'space-music' has its origins in the experimental work of electronic music since the fifties, where musicians like Varèse, Stockhausen, Xenakis not only has explored audio visualization and spatialization systems in order to relate the logics of space to the one of imaging and music but also to link it to computation technologies, synthesized and programmed music. The Spa[z]e music compositions thus relates the logics of inFORMation processes, computation > communication (networking) and editing (recording) to the one of space and music building up an immersive space of frenetic sounds; a navigation through the digital matrix enjoy
Founded in 1977, the New Museum of Contemporary Art is the premier contemporary art museum in New York City and among the most important internationally. Each year, the Museum presents six major exhibitions, and five Media Lounge shows. The program of dynamic solo exhibitions and landmark group shows defines key moments in the development of contemporary art, reflects the global nature of art today, and spans a vast array of cultural activities and media.
The Museum is guided by the conviction that contemporary art is a vital social force that extends beyond the art world and into the broader culture. Our purpose is to engage diverse audiences ranging from arts professionals to those less familiar with contemporary art.
Zenith Media Lounge is New York Citys only museum space dedicated to the exhibition and exploration of digital art, experimental video and sound works. Located on the New Museum Store level, programming in the Media Lounge is ongoing and is always free.Zenith Media Lounge is a digital and media arts technology collaboration with Zenith Electronics Corporation. Zenith Media Lounge exhibitions and public programs are supported by the Jerome Foundation and the New York State Council on the Arts.

[ ERZATZ ] _ B :
http://www.erzatz.org
As a composer of electronic music and webdesigner, [erzatz] has a very organic connection with the technologies of today. Inspite of this technological aspect, his music is feeded with human emotions and feelings. On the one hand you have the sweet - ironic tales, inspired by his own life, and on the other hand you have strong dance compositions ,inspired by the epigoni of punk rock and grunge These tracks are marked by absolute rythms and by an amazing know how of breakbeats (as we know them of electro, funk , drum n bass and braindance). [erzatz] is eclectic but open to the public.
[ Shel Kimen, a.k.a. Klever Vice ] _ USA :
http://www.klever.org/mzkKleverVice, otherwise known as Shel Kimen is a DJ who has been playing in
New York City since 1999. She has also played in San Francisco, Chicago,
Berlin, and Nevada. Her style is eclectic, ranging from ambient, to
experimental electronic, noise, old-time jazz, rock, and techno. Her
philosophy is that music should tell stories in context of the performance
and environment, not necessarily genre specific. She is most known for
building layers and textures with sound which may at times drift towards
noise and at other times lean towards nostalgia.
[ bubble fish ] _ USA :

Born in Seoul, Korea. Studied classical piano from an early age. Moved to the United States in 1992 and developed an interest in music technology.
Attending Berklee College of Music (1995-1999) , began to experiment with various musical applications including Max and C-Sound. Moved to New York in 1999 and began working as a Sound Designer and composer. Worked with audio technologies to develop interactive music on the web for MTV and other clients. Recently have been experimenting with "lo-fi", 8 bit technologies, performing compositions live in art venues, clubs and galleries in New York.
[ Chris Burke, Glomag ] _ USA :
http://www.bongdern.com/glomag
Glomag is Chris Burke, a sound and web designer based in New York City. His first Kikapu release, "The Axis and The Alloy," is a series of fragmentations in which the original sample material is sometimes glimpsed only fleetingly, and sometimes left standing unscathed in the midst of new electronic constructions. Chris Burke's previous work with his band Glorified Magnified and his solo releases "Idioglossia" and "Oil War" were the breeding ground from which this more fragmented style emerges. Glomag also can often be spotted in New York City performing with laptops and Gameboys.
[ Secret agent gel ] _ USA
http://www.secretagentgel.com' Extraordinarily minimal, p as in peter, f as in frank sets secret agent gel off into a realm of short, experimental instrumental music, all crafted lovingly on a computer. it's a surprisingly engaging and interesting listen, with minimal melodies balanced together with a sound that carries through. ANDREW WEAVER OF THE ELECTRIC NEWSPAPER WROTE
Founded in 1995 LAB[au], laboratory for architecture and urbanism, links theoretical research LAB[a+u] to concrete works of conception and productions, LA.BAU. The different sectors of LAB[au] present the broad range of activities where the 0.1lab label stands for a work on the World Wide Web as a vector for the creation of a new working environment as well as the base for a new matrix of social interaction and collective space; LAB[au]+ for the creation of a collaborative agency examining these transformations within various disciplines.
According to this method LAB[au] elaborates a 'metadesign' investigating the implications of new communication and computation technologies within spatio-temporal structures and their multiple forms of representation, such as information architecture, architecture, urbanismThe transposition of inFORMation processes, transmission and computation, in textual, graphical bi-dimensional, three-dimensional and biomorphic (auto-generative; n-dimensional) forms explores new constructs proper to the electronic medium and outlines the spatial and semantic mutation provoked by technologies on the perception and conception of our environment. Metadesign thus can be understood as a technology determinism that constitutes the main vector/thought in the concern of networked, information-based societies.
