abstract
.'...One of the essential aspects of Wesley Meuris’ (Antwerp,1977) work is the discovery and visualization of the human tendency to desire, meaning, diffusion and its derivatives, in all forms of architecture in which language is undoubtedly the dominant structure. As beings gifted with speech, we always name the other; we literally create the other through speech, by describing it or them.
Essentially, we enclose those within a network of meaning, which we know not be absolutely neutral or free of value judgments. This fundamental component of our culture leads to a countless number of applications in all conceivable disciplines, among which are legislation, internal regulation and codes, often to force a dominant perceptions on reality.
Meuris objectifies human language and its taxonomy; he communicates this architecture as an abstract spatial datum, thus revealing its enormous impact. He seems to have found an interesting answer to our desire for information and communication, in many cases it is the phobia of assigning a name. The physical form of information has become the true – because it is tangible – form of communication....'.
