PUBLIC ART INSIDE
PI
the installation is based on the deciphering of the endless and random number string of Pi. The scrolling words allowing us to get a glimpse on what this universal number may tell us.
XXXXXXXX
A sixteen segment display shows every day a random generated eight letter word welcoming each visitor in the entrance hall of the library.
origamiCeilingReynaerts
A kinetic ceiling based on a tessellated surface, subdivided into 192 triangles, their movement uses smart memory alloys to pull up the flaps and gravity for downwards motion, balancing control with randomness.
origamiSquare8x24
kinetic relief based on a square tiling with triangular subdivision conceived for the atrium space of Linklaters, Brussels. It's 192 moving elements fill the space with motion, colour and sound combining geometric patterns with randomness.
PUBLIC ART OUTSIDE
Kontexte
As a result of combinatorial logic, random words appear only for the time needed to generate them. Their rhythm contrasts with the flow of the city, forming a fleeting urban poem that invites imagination.
.
365Charleroi
Facing Charleroi’s central station and city ring, an eight-letter display atop the Quai10 building reveals one randomly generated word each day. 365 questions our reading of urban space and opens interpretations.
weatherTower
yearly illumination of Brussels Dexia Tower, displaying colour and geometric patterns driven by real-time data, provided by the Belgium Royal Meterological Institute. The artwork turns the tower into a weather beacon right in the very centre of the city.
SiloScope
The 20 m high hyperboloid is a sound-reactive light sculpture located on the banks of the Seine in Vitry-sur-Seine. Through triangulated microphones, it detects the direction and speed of sounds from the urban environment, translating these data into dynamic light patterns.
yesNoPerhaps
From random combinations, glyphs emerge. Some become letters, some words, and through AI-assisted ordering, a text arises from chance alone, probing the boundary between sense and nonsense in the public sphere.
ZaitWuert
A 6 letters display replaces the former light sign of the art center contextualising its name, related to its historic function of a Casino, by using chance operations to display random generated words.
10e-15
The title refers to the metric scale of femto, used in photon technologies. The artwork translates this principle into a 15 m long frieze of Fresnel lenses, transforming the landscape into an impressionistic play of light and inviting passers-by to enter pure light.
Palimpsest
Random generated words scroll along the crown of a former industrial cooling tower. Each new word overwrites older ones, creating a palimpsest of pure combinatorial logic, a poem in the skyline of Ghent.
LuxAeternae
Lux Aeterna is the official memorial for the explosion of the AZF factory in Toulouse, France. The disaster took place on 21 September 2001, and is one of the most significant industrial accidents of its time, due to the magnitude of damage and the number of victims.
PUBLIC ART IN PROGRESS
sourceOfUncertainty
Capturing Cosmic rays and transcribing these data into sound, text and music diffused in different parts of the building - to listen to these messengers from an other time and space.
fLUX
92 arches at Toronto’s Union Station transcribe the movement of passers-by (the flow) into evolving patterns of light, (lux) and a music for trainstation, based on a pentatonic scale.
PUBLIC ART PROPOSALS
perg01a
Inspired by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe's Dominan Center in Toronto the kiosk transforms its ceiling structure into a kinetic one producing geometric shadow plays throughout the days and seasons of the year.
.
f0unta1n
A topography of squared cylinders of varying heights forms the fountain ground. As the water level changes, elements appear and disappear, constituting information. At its lowest level, it quotes: “information is the resolution of uncertainty” by Claude Shannon.
